How to Choose a Sleeping Bag

When choosing a sleeping bag, there are a few key things to consider. Our Softie® and Special Forces sleeping bags are trusted by military personnel, outdoor professionals, and seasoned adventurers alike. They have a convenient packed size, are water-repellent, and feature quality synthetic insulation to retain body heat even at the lowest temperature.

The following models are now all offered in Short, Standard, and Extra Long sizes: 

• Softie® Range: Softie 3, 6, 9, 10, 12 and the Softie Antarctica for extremely cold conditions. These are synthetic sleeping bags with fantastic insulating properties and sleeping bag temperature ratings down to -30°C

• Special Forces Range: The Special Forces sleeping bags can be used individually or together, purchased as a whole system or built from SF1 and SF2. Use SF1 in above freezing temperatures, or add SF2 and join them with an extra baffle for protection down to -20°C.

Every sleeping bag includes a heavy-duty stuff sack for easy storage and transport. You can also upgrade your setup with a high-quality sleeping bag liner for extra comfort and warmth.

Extra Flexibility with Expanda Panels

Want a little more wiggle room? Many of our sleeping bags are compatible with the Snugpak Expanda Panel. The Expanda Panel is a handy zip-in wedge that adds 40cm of extra chest width. With a few steps, they effortlessly transform a standard sleeping bag into an extra-wide sleeping bag for comfort and flexibility.

Why Does a Tailored Fit Matter?

A sleeping bag is designed to keep you warm, dry, and comfortable, but to do its job properly, it needs to fit. A bag that matches your body and proportions improves performance, warmth, and sleep quality, something that becomes even more crucial on particularly demanding expeditions or military operations.

With a tailored fit: 

• Heat is retained more efficiently because there is less space for cold air to circulate or for body warmth to escape.

• Cold spots decrease, helping you maintain a consistent temperature throughout the night. 

• Comfort is improved with less bunching or tightness. You also get better freedom of movement. This is extra important if you must wake quickly, as you won’t trip over the bottom of your sleeping bag. 

• The design minimises noise and fabric shifting, giving you a quieter, less disrupted sleep.

• Your kit is lighter and more compact because you’re not carrying unnecessary fabric or insulation. 

We manufacture all our sleeping bags at our UK-based factory, giving us flexibility to offer specialist options. You can choose left- or right-hand zips, add Expanda Panels for extra room, or zip bags together for shared warmth, as with the Special Forces System.
