Weezle Diving Undersuit

The Weezle Undersuit

Summer’s coming to an end, but we’re sure there are still plenty of hardy adventurers out there keen to get out diving. As hardy as you may be, warmth is still the top priority when you’re out in cold waters, and that’s exactly where our award-winning drysuit undersuit comes in.

We’ve been making the Weezle Undersuit for over 25 years, and it’s truly unique. As the only diving undersuit to have ever received the prestigious Design Council Award, we can safely say it’s pretty darn good!

It comes in Compact, Extreme, and Extreme Plus, with each design delivering superior warmth, comfort, and performance beneath your drysuit. We’ll take you through our undersuits, explore each of the three models in a little more detail, and help you choose the one best suited to your diving needs.

What Makes the Weezle Undersuit Special?

The Weezle Undersuit has transformed the way divers stay warm, protected and dry, setting new standards in thermal protection for both the sports and commercial diving markets worldwide.

Let’s take a look at some of its key features:

  • Made in the UK. Expertly designed right here in the UK with advanced construction for outstanding insulation.

  • Practical Design. Two-way YKK front zipper for easy access, thumb loops, integrated ankle stirrups, and an elastic waistband. Plus a compression stuff sack for added convenience.

  • Extra Durable. Reinforced nylon shoulder panels protect against wear from drysuit zips, helping to extend the life of your undersuit.

  • Smart Storage. Two hip pockets plus a chest pocket provide ample storage space that’s easily accessible.

  • High-Performance Materials. Softie® Premier insulation, TS1 (Thermal Suede) inner fabric, and Paratex Light outer fabric.

Materials Make All The Difference

Here’s a closer look at the materials used in the construction of our diving undersuits.

  • Softie® Premier Insulation. This is the same advanced insulation we use in our sleeping bags and jackets. It delivers exceptional warmth without unnecessary bulk. It traps heat effectively, keeping you warm and comfortable even in the coldest waters.

  • TS1 (Thermal Suede 1) Inner Fabric. Fully lining the undersuit, TS1 is a high-performance, textured, moisture-wicking material. It's soft and cosy against the skin and enhances the undersuit’s thermal capabilities.

  • Paratex Light Outer Fabric. A windproof, breathable, and durable outer layer, Paratex Light protects you from the elements while allowing moisture to escape. It’s perfect for keeping you dry and comfortable in the most demanding of environments.

Let’s Take a Deep Dive

Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s take a deeper dive into the three different models of Weezle Undersuit available.

Compact

Our compact drysuit undersuit is the lightest in the Weezle range. It’s suitable for warmer waters, divers who don’t feel the cold quite as much, or for use beneath a neoprene drysuit. Weighing just 920g and packing down to a small size, it’s a great choice for travel, providing thermal protection without the bulk.

Generally recommended as a base layer for active divers in temperate conditions, the Compact is ideal for summer diving in the UK. However, if you're planning on heading out in the heart of winter or to colder climes, one of our more heavily insulated options may be the better choice.

Extreme

Our Extreme one-piece undersuit is our mid-weight option, weighing 1190g, and strikes a balance between warmth and versatility. The go-to choice for most divers, it performs well in UK waters and other cool-to-cold environments, especially when paired with a tri-laminate drysuit.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Weezle Undersuit

1. Will I need more weight when using the Weezle undersuit?
No, many divers have successfully reduced the weight on their belts after switching to a Weezle undersuit. Its thermal efficiency can aid buoyancy. However, always conduct a weight check in sheltered water before your dive.

2. What should I wear underneath my Weezle undersuit?
Wear as little as comfortably possible. The undersuit's moisture-wicking properties are most effective when in direct contact with your skin. Any additional layers should also be made of high-wicking materials to maintain optimal performance.

3. Will I overheat while waiting to dive?
No, if you remove the air from your drysuit, creating a vacuum effect, you can adjust the thermal properties of the suit to some extent. This technique helps prevent overheating on land.

4. Will it fit under my drysuit?
Yes, if you can fit a traditional undersuit under your drysuit, you can also wear a Weezle undersuit. Weezle suits compress to an incredibly small size and expand to fill any gaps, making them the most effective thermal protection underclothing available.

5. Why aren’t the Weezle undersuits quilted?
The undersuit has been carefully designed to eliminate the need for quilting, as quilting restricts the free flow of air around the suit. Additionally, stitching creates cold spots at each location. By using a self-supporting filling material, the need for quilting, and consequently, the occurrence of cold spots, is eliminated.
